General - Detailed Metaprogram

General idea or precise details?

The last but one metaprogram gives us a scale on which we define, whether we prefer to look at a certain situation from a wide perspective, to know the general idea or do we start from getting to the heart of he matter and later build the big picture.

Recognition

People with general filter like... general concepts.

People directed towards details prefer know the small elements of the problem first.

Usage

Knowing that metaprogram can be very useful while presenting your ideas to someone.

With people that have general filter you should start with the general idea and next move towards discussing the details, otherwise that person can feel lost and will demand that general concept to know the whole situation.

For instance: This investing offer is about securing a decent future for you and your family when you stop working. First you invest for some long period and then on retirement you get your money.

If we talk to people that have detailed filter we can immediately start with discussing individual points of our idea, not wasting time for general introductions and speeches ( because we can be asked to get into the crux of the matter).

For instance: This offer is about you paying 500$ monthly for 30 years and when you will be 50 years old you will receive 12800$ a month.

Exercise

In the following exercise you need to master creating sentences with both filters: general and detailed one. You will have 5 sentences to write for each of them. The spreadsheet can be downloaded here. (If you need a password you will find it by registering here).
