General Model of the Persuasion Process

What is it all about?

I will present the general model of persuasion process with reference to a situation when you want to convince someone.

The effective techniques that you will learn here you may use in many different cases.

Step 0 – the determination of the goal

This is the precondition of the persuasion process.

If you want to convince someone, first of all you have to specify your goal and the expected result of your actions. The goal has to be positive for both sides.

Step 1 – coming into contact

The first thing that you have to do is to impress this person. Thanks to the pacing techniques you will be able to cause that every person you come into contact with will feel good in your company, will trust you and will be more susceptible to your persuasion.

Step 2 – determining the values

Recognize the issues highly important for your interlocutor, reveal what motivates him to acting and what he wants to achieve.

It will be much easier for you to communicate and to persuade when you adjust to other person’s system of values.

Step 3 – determination of metaprogrammes

Metaprograms are specific filters with the help of which people perceive the surrounding reality. When you learn yours interlocutor’s way of thinking, you will be able to use the arguments which motivates him most to act in the way you expect him to.

Step 4 – use of persuasion techniques

Now, when you know so much about the person you communicate with, you can use the most efficient persuasive models to make this person realize that the best way to achieve his goal is to follow your advice.

Step 5 - success

Going properly through particular stages of this persuasion model enables you to achieve your aim in an effective way and at the same time you help others.
