Self - Others Metaprogram

Another metaprogram: Self - Others, is also very simple.

People directed toward ‘Self’ ask themselves in a given situation: „What's in it for me?”

On the other hand, people directed toward ‘others’ are wondering „What's in it for the others?”

At first sight, it is similar to the division into the groups of egoists and altruists but you shouldn’t treat it in this way. The definitions such as egoists and altruists comprise the judgement and as we know there aren’t good and bad metaprograms but just the more and less useful.

Both the person directed toward ‘self’ and toward ‘others’ can do a lot of good things for himself/herself as well as the others.

Recognition

As usual we observe the person and listen. For example:

The person directed toward ‘self’ may say:

- I would like to have more money.

- I don’t want fame, I do it just for myself.

- It’s most important for me to derive the satisfaction from it.

The person directed toward ‘others’:

- But my wife won’t be pleased with this.

- It’s most important that we should succeed.

- This offer will bring benefits to the company.

The use

When you talk with a person directed toward ‘self’ draw his attention to the benefits that such an action will bring him.

When you try to convince a person directed toward ‘others’ underline how his surrounding will benefit thanks to his activity.

In every situation you can find an aspect that refers to either a single person or his surroundings.
