Walt Disney's Strategy

I have never met any person who doesn’t know who Walt Disney was. I’m convinced that we can say he was one of most influential people of XX century, and the fairy empire that he had created would survive many, many years.

While planning his strategy, Walt Disney used a very characteristic plan which was then modified by NLP creators and named after him.

Walt Disney's Strategy

Disney during planning his actions underwent three stages:

  • dreamer,
  • realist and
  • critic

Dreamer

At the beginning he used to launch his imagination, stimulate it to create fantastic and exaggerated visions of his plans. He imagined i.e. wonderful, perfectly situated Disneyland with thousands of children and their parent visiting this colourful world of fairy miracles every day.

When he satisfied his ambitions with this vision he proceeded to the next stage.

Realist

Now, he wondered how many things he dreamt of was feasible. He considered whether he had enough resources, time and people and in what scale this enterprise was practicable. When he had the full picture of this aims he preceded to the last stage.

Critic

At this stage he tried to find potential obstacles and difficulties. He looked for weak points of his plans where the probability of failure was high.

As he had a full vision of his plans he could start its implementing or come back to the first stage and dream, dream and dream...

Is his strategy efficient? I think that you know the answer very well :-)

Exercise

How to implement Walt Disney’s strategy?

If you copy this model it should be sufficient strategy, but if you know the NLP you may cause that the results will be even better.

1 – Marking the place

Find a piece of floor and mark three different places on it. The first will correspond to dreamer, the second to the realist and the last to the critic.

You may mark them by putting something or drawing something as it is important for you to be able to stand precisely in the same place.

2 - Anchoring

Stand in the first place (a dreamer’s place) and think about the situation in which your imagination is highly stimulated. Recall these imaginations, unrealistic dreams and thoughts.

When the state becomes very intense you can also make a kinesthetic anchor.

Do the same with the place of the realist. Recall a situation in which you were a realist. Think, enhance, and anchor.

And now proceed to the last position – critic. Recall the situation when you happened to constructive criticize somebody. It should be situation in which you didn’t say “you won’t succeed” but you showed the potential threats and weak points.

As previously, anchor this state.

3 – Your magnificent plan

Now, it’s time you used this strategy for your purposes.

Think about your Magnificent Plan, a goal you want to achieve. Move to the dreamer position and transform it into a magnificent dream. Exaggerate this vision; inspire your imagination until you feel a great motivation.

Move to the realist position, and on the basis of your resources determine the realistic extent to which your plan is feasible.

When you do this, it’s time for a critic. Look for potential threats, problems and obstacles. Where is the critical point, the bottleneck?

Pay attention to how these three steps caused that what you wanted to achieve became more realistic and closer.

Now, you have the full picture of your enterprise and a strong conviction that everything will go well.

If you want you can repeat this procedure or just start realizing your plan.

I wish you success!
